U10 is an age group developing rapidly. The players are now fully comfortable with the 7v7 format and begin to understand more nuanced tactical concepts such as pressing, overlaps and set pieces. Tournaments for U10 are typically well organised with clear divisions and results – and it's here that many players truly discover the joy of a well-earned win.

• Years 2015–2016 are typically U10 in the current season
• 7v7 on a medium pitch – the same format as U9 but the players are more developed
• Technical level: Dribbling, passing, shooting and heading are all part of the game
• Tactical level: Team formation, zonal pressing and set pieces are introduced

U10 players are mature enough for a proper pre-tournament meeting. Use 10–15 minutes the day before to go through the day's programme, assign positions and motivate the team. Arrive at the tournament in good time, do a structured warm-up and use the breaks for short tactical briefings. Many coaches find U10 is the age group where working on tactics truly starts to make sense.
